Testing and Measurement in New Delhi

This weekend's testing and measurement websites hotspot is New Delhi. 

Both our websites have had visitors from the Indian capital, the second most populous city in India (after Mumbai), with almost 17 million inhabitants. New Delhi is the larger in terms of area, though, covering over 570 square miles or almost 1500 square kilometres. 

New Delhi is said to be a microcosm of India, with a lot of activity in the arts, education and commerce, as well as fashion, finance, transport and more. 

Amazingly, the city is only just over 100 years old - the foundation stone was laid on 15 December 1911 - and was designed by leading British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker.

Today's construction testing website hotspot is Liverpool. 

One of the most famous cities in the world, Liverpool has a long and very varied history. It was founded in 1207 and granted city status in 1880, between which dates it grew into a major sea port and featured significantly in the slave trade in the 18th century. 

Many Irish immigrants also passed through Liverpool and its cosmopolitan population has helped to make it one of the most culturally aware cities in the UK, especially in the music industry. Liverpool artists have had more number one singles than those from any other city. 

The city also has a rich architectural heritage and was the site of the world's first railway tunnel, started in 1829.

Construction Materials Testing in London

Today's construction testing website hotspot is London. 

We often get a lot of traffic from London but try not to include the same city too often in our hotspot spot. However, the stats don't lie. The fact is that London has more history and interesting facts than almost any other city in the world, and with major construction projects ongoing, the demand for construction-related equipment, soil testing equipment and so on, is as big as ever. 

That's why London is top of today's visitor stats for Novanna Testing (our construction testing site) AND www.novanna.co.uk, our general testing equipment website.

Testing and Measurement in Bournemouth

This week we seem to be big in Bournemouth - both the construction testing site and our main site, www.novanna.co.uk have had multiple visits from the south coast resort. 

Apparently, not everyone there is on the beach.

Construction Materials Testing in Navi Mumbai

So far this week, Navi Mumbai has been the website hotspot for www.novanna-testing.co.uk. 

Navi Mumbai was founded in the early 1970s as a satellite township to relieve the population pressure on the city of Mumbai.

Testing and Measurement in Leoben, Austria

Today's testing and measurement websites hotspot is Leoben, Austria.

Leoben is a in central Austria, on the Mur river. A modest-sized city with a population of about 25,000, Leoben is a local industrial center and hosts the University of Leoben which specialises in mining, and the area has a long tradition of iron and steel mining and research.

An important treaty, the Peace of Leoben, an armistice between Austria and France preliminary to the Treaty of Campo Formio, was signed in Leoben in 1797. Leoben has a long history and is known as the “Gateway to the Styrian Iron Road”.

Several important churches, of different denominations, are situated in Leoben, and various classical music events are held here. The city also boasts the oldest active theatre in Austria. 

Big News in the World of Testing and Measurement

Today's testing and measurement website hotspot is undoubtedly Bury St Edmunds.

Why? because today our second website finally went 'live', thanks to the hard work of our friends at Logic Design, our neighbours in Novanna's home town of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

The new site concentrates on concrete and construction materials testing, and is on a totally new domain www.novanna-testing.co.uk.

We've taken the opportunity to create a new design for the site that we'll also be using on the existing site very soon. Navigation is easier and categories are easier to identify. (It looks nicer, too!)

We're very excited about the new site and a new chapter in Novanna's story. Most importantly, though, YOU will hopefully find the Novanna Testing website a great source of test equipment and everything to do with concrete and construction materials testing.

Soil Testing for Engineers

Soil testing with Novanna is not only for farmers and growers.

A fascinating discussion with an architect friend highlighted for me the many ways in soil and subsoil testing is important for engineering projects.

A recent building collapse in China showed that diligence is important during construction as well as in the design and preparation. A whole building simply disappeared into a hole in the ground - probably caused by tunneling work for the city's new subway system.

Meanwhile, under London, much work continues. Constantly reassessing and coping with surprises and changes in soil type and structure is vital to avoid similar disasters to the Chinese one. With so many millions of tons of high rise building sitting in and on London's variable (but rarely very solid) soil, it's important not to take anything for granted.

For smaller builders and those working from above ground, the characteristics of the soil are just as important, even if a mishap might have less spectacular or disastrous results.
