Today's testing and measurement hotspot is
Belfast. The capital and largest city in Northern Ireland, Belfast's
name means 'the mouth of the sandbanks', which tells you something about
its position on the floodplain of the River Lagan.
The
Harland and Wolff shipyard, which built the famous RMS Titanic, was the
most productive shipyard in the world at that time, and the city was
also famous for its linen industry, rope making and tobacco production.
These days, the city is still a major industrial, commercial and
artistic centre and its population is around 600,000 or so.
